a place a feeling something he said to you [reviewed]

The Pedestrian Press wrote a really thoughtful review of my new book, a place a feeling something he said to you.

Check out this excerpt:

When a talented writer burns out or fades it is always sad but not novel; when on the other hand, a talented writer comes back to us with a piece like this that takes their entire craft to a new level in a way that alters how we think about writing, that is a happy novelty. This is certainly the case, here.

I have read a few of Naughton's books, and enjoyed them very much--her writing shows you, viscerally, what it is like to be a young woman [as well as simply a person] in our time in a way that speaks too directly not to leave an impression--but this book can only be described as a breakthrough to a whole other plane of creation.

The experimentation and disregard of the "rules" of writing that we've come to expect from her is certainly there, but there is a unity and a structure to how it's done this time that is the sign of art at its most transcendent. This is a perfect novella that breaks all the rules.

Many thanks to Jay DeSalvo. You can read the rest of the review here.
